DeSoto, Texas

Marching Band

October is an intense month for the band. After the Friday night football game, we will spend most of Saturday (every weekend in October) competing in Area competition events. Saturday often means an early Stadium practice, getting dressed into uniforms, taking a bus to the event, and competing. If the band places in the preliminary competition, we will stay for the evening competition. Students are often not home until midnight.

The Color Guard is the flag bearers and dancing ensemble of the marching band, and an important part! Color Guard is open to students from the high school that would like to express their dancing performance abilities rather than marching.

Concert Season

There are two bands that perform concert music, Wind Symphony  and Symphonic I. There is also a Concert band. There are concerts throughout the year for Christmas, Spring, UIL, and year-end, including Graduation Night for the seniors.

Other Performing Groups

Desoto’s Winter Guard has recently been ranked very high in the nation in their division. It is an indoor competition season that takes place during the winter months. More details will be available, as the season gets closer.

Percusion Jam is held in May at the high school auditorium, drumlines, steel drums and percussion ensembles jam the night away. This event includes groups from the high school and the middle schools.

Students can compete individually for All Region Band, All Region Orchestra and All Region Jazz. The top chairs go on to compete in Pre Area, Area and State. Students can also compete in February in the Solo/Ensemble event. If the student plays the required difficulty in music, performs it by memory and receives a 1 ranking, they are invited to participate in the State Competition in May. Solos must be accompanied by piano.
